hybrid thermoplastic composites fabricated by film stacking technique
ACADEMIC PROJECTS AND EXPERIENCE:
Compounding of Thermoplastics
August 2000
* Compounded thermoplastics (PS, HDPE, LDPE, PP, and ABS) with varying
percentage and composition of fly ash using twin screw extruder and analyzed
the prospects of using the compounded plastic in roads and brick making
Filling Analysis and Design Optimization Study
May 2000
* Analyzed an automobile part using MoldFlow
* Identified reasons leading to defects in the part and recommended solutions
in material selection and gating strategy
Research Assistant
June 2000 - Dec. 2000
* Investigated Flow line cosmetic defects in injection molded parts filled
with pearlescent pigments
* Simulated using MoldFlow the effect of change in process parameters
on the reduction of weld line and amount of shear stresses developed within
the part
Design of a Low Force Inhalator
Dec. 2000
* Designed an add-on part, which minimized the use of force and could
aesthetically and ergonomically meet the industry requirements
Teaching Assistant
Dec. 2000 - May 2001
* Involved in teaching undergraduates the safety, set up, documentation
and usage of Injection Molding
Tool Design
May 2001
* Designed a mold for a Hard Hat - A mold was designed using Solidworks
2001. Use of material, type & No. Of ejector pins, cooling layout,
hot sprue bushing and other accessories were suggested. A filling and
packing analysis was also performed using MoldFlow
Seminars Presented at UMass Lowell
Jan. 2000 - May 2001
* Gas Assist Injection Molding
* Design for Recycling
* Collapsible Cores - A Brief Review
* Power Consumption Calculations in Single Screw Extruders
* Weld Lines in Injection Molding
* Injection Molding Hydraulics
INDUSTRIAL EXPERIENCE:
BT COMPOSITES LTD., INDIA - Application Engineer
April 1997 - Dec. 1999
* Developed structural and electrical grade LPMC for use in water storage
and switchgear industries respectively
* Developed a Class A formulation for use in automotive industry
* Developed low cost formulation by incorporating cheapening agents as
well as recycled resins to mold electrical enclosures, for ex. Switch
Box
* Managed production and molding of LPMC - Stressed on Lean Manufacturing
* Involved in designing mixing vessels and delivery systems for better
production of LPMC
* Developed formulations which reduced the cost by 25% and cycle time
by 5 seconds
* Adept in Insert molding of electrical parts and have used SMC, LPMC
and DMC compounds
* Worked with the customers and solved problems using LPMC. Technical
presentations were made regarding the use and advantages of LPMC at customer
sites
* Developed Quality standards for incoming raw materials and process manuals
for easy understanding at the shop floor.
* Involved in implementing ISO 9001
* Involved with vendors for development of molds for various applications
HINDUSTAN AERONAUTICS LTD., INDIA - Trainee Engineer
Nov. 1996 - March 1997
* Proficient in bonding of honeycomb structures, vacuum bagging, autoclave
curing and repair of aircraft panels
