PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

(company) PA  (1981-2002)

Coatings Chemist  (2001-2002)
Carried out Technical Service, Customer and Production Service projects in the Cement Modifiers group.  Assessed (company) dry powder and emulsion cement modifiers against competitive polymers in several patch and repair mortar formulations.  Communicated project status by writing reports and giving presentations.

Selected Accomplishment:
. Discovered the utility of (company) dispersant that improved polymer performance versus a competitive polymer in a cement mortar formulation.
. Identified defoamer candidates for (company) cement emulsions.
. Wrote several Standard Operating Procedures and conducted Hazard Analyses for equipment, i.e. Hobart Mixer, Tinius Olsen, Penetrometer, Mold Stripper and Nilfisk Dry Vacuum.

Coatings Chemist  (1988-2001)
Performed Technical Service, Research and Customer Service projects in the Rheology Modifiers group.  Assessed key competitive polymers, dispersants, defoamers, and thickeners in starting point and customer architectural paints, varnishes, sealers, elastomeric wall coatings and stain formulations.  Project updates were communicated by writing reports and giving presentations.

        Selected Accomplishment:
. Invented a method that allows blending of certain thickeners without forming a gel.  Two "new" Rheology Modifier products have been developed.   A patent is pending.
. Developed starting point formulations in Architectural paints, varnish, sealers, and Elastomeric Wall Coatings while assessing key polymers, dispersants, defoamers and thickeners.  Technical notes, videos, and internal publications highlighted (company) superiority.
. Planned, designed, researched the technique, developed test methods, safe operating procedures and training programs regarding Airless Spray.  Published book "Airless Spray Applications", for in-house and customer use.  Recognized as the resident expert for airless spray.
. Discovered an unexpected performance synergy by combining (company) Rheology Modifiers with Hydroxyethylcellulose in exterior flat paints. Information was used in formulating presentations and numerous customer visits at exposure test site.
. Organized, prepared and demonstrated thickener, dispersant and polymer interactions in hands-on paint application workshops for (Company) and customer sales force.
. Skilled using the James Machine, Tukon, Tumbler, Gloss Reflectometer, viscosity instruments, Blister and Fog boxes, Cleveland & Roller Cabinet, MFFT Bar, Cowles Disperser, Abrasion (Scrub) Tester, and Weatherometer.

Research Technician  (1981-1988)
Converted batch reactions to continuous process in the Monomers Research Department. Responsible for the design, construction and operation of continuous column distillation units to improve yields, cycle time and purity of specialty monomers.

        Selected Accomplishment:
.Developed and supervised batch process at (company) Plant.  Implemented pH metering system.
