* Developed, evaluated, and selected equipment layouts and utility system
upgrades for an Architectural & Engineering firm's $40 M steel rolling mill
upgrade project.
* Central contributor to existing process and equipment evaluation,
quotation evaluation, downtime scheduling, pricing, and value engineering
exercises in the development of a fixed price bid package.
 
10/00 - 2/02 PROCESS ENGINEER - Pirelli Communications Cables & Systems NA,
Lexington, SC
* Developed and industrialized innovative equipment and process improvements
for the Interconnect fiber cable product line.
* Successfully commissioned ahead of schedule and under budget four new
fiber optic cable extrusion lines in two months, each with a 50% speed
increase, resulting in increased production capacity of over 200%.
* Specified, competitively quoted, installed, and commissioned on time and
under budget a $750,000 bulk material storage, drying, and distribution
system supplying multiple compounds to 27 extrusion lines.
* Optimized plant layouts and tracked all startup activities for new and
relocated equipment in a new 360,000-ft2 facility.
* Specified, jointly designed with vendors, installed, and commissioned a
new cable rewinder and a refurbished fiber rewinder.
* Created, maintained, and trained both manufacturing and maintenance
personnel on new operating procedures, manufacturing instructions, and line
recipes for all equipment personally installed, commissioned, and
documented.
* Functionally supervised and provided technical support to production line
technicians and operators.
* Contributed monthly to technical and management planning meetings through

12/94 - 10/00 MECHANICAL SYSTEMS ENGINEER - Cryovac Division Sealed Air

* Specified, quoted, jointly designed, and installed a $4.5M developmental
co-extrusion coating line for a new product line.
* Integrated, installed, and commissioned the components and systems for two
film co-extrusion lines totaling $4.6M.
* Researched and developed the equipment and systems for a new film
perforation converting operation.
* Central contributor to a cross-functional team tasked with entering a new
product market at a low capital cost.  Team efforts reduced the cost from
$5M to under $800k by moving and/or upgrading underutilized equipment in
three different facilities.
* Uninstalled, heavily modified for a different process, and reinstalled in
another production facility a converting machine in less than two weeks to
remedy processing problems causing product failures and customer complaints.
* Jointly designed, installed, and commissioned a 250-ton chill-water system
servicing multiple extrusion line processes.
* Directed a joint design project with a vendor to address static
electricity problems resulting in a successful new blender design.
* Researched and evaluated multiple groove-feed extruder vendors in pursuit
of establishing a product line equipment standard.
