RECRUIT

I have a strong experience in Manufacturing engineering and manufacturing research. You will find in me a dedicated and driven professional whose achievements include:

Hands on experience of working with various machining processes and machine tools involving grinding machines, turning centers, knurl/ flute rolling machines and Induction hardening machines.

Achieved a record production (120% of target) in a continuous line manufacturing cell.

Troubleshooting of process problems, identification and solving of production bottlenecks, setting up of different machineries to obtain the required quality, process control using SPC tools, conducting machine capability studies and CNC program optimization.

Implementing and maintaining Lean Manufacturing systems like Kaizen, 5S and TPS, leading to the reduction in throughput time.

Successfully supervised 20 operators and single-handedly managed the entire cell in the night shift.

Expecting to publish a technical paper on my graduate research project.

I have 2 years of experience in a Toyota group Manufacturing firm along with 2 years of Manufacturing research experience. As a Production Engineer, I achieved a record production and exceeded the quality requirement of the products, leading to the export of products to Japan. As a Management Trainee I contributed to Vendor development, Production Planning and Quality Control departments. I am presently working as a Research Assistant in the Grinding Research Lab at Umass. I am expecting to publish a technical paper in the topic of energy partition with plated CBN grinding wheels

OBJECTIVE:       Seeking a challenging position as a Mechanical Engineer in the field of Manufacturing and Process Engineering.

EDUCATION:      M.S., Mechanical Engineering, University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Expected October 2002

GPA: 3.63 (4.0 scale)

·         Relevant Coursework: Machining and Machine tools, Quality Control and Reliability, Statistics and Probability, Engineering Design Optimization, Finite Element Analysis, Microelectronic Fabrication.

·         Designed and built a Mobile Robot as part of the course work. Hands-on experience of fabricating Microelectronic devices from bare silicon wafers in clean room environment.

B.E., Mechanical Engineering, National Institute of Engineering, Mysore, India, August 1998. Equivalent GPA: 3.6 (4.0 scale)

·         Project: Installed a new Micro Hydro Electricity Generating System that gave 20% more power than the existing system.

EXPERIENCE:     Research Assistant, (Nameg Research Lab, University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

September 2000- Present

·         Investigation of the Grinding process with electroplated cubic boron nitride (CBN) wheels. Involves designing of the experimental setup to collect the process data, conducting grinding experiments and carrying out of post-experimental analysis using mathematical models. Conducted surface analysis using Scanning Electron Microscope (S.E.M) and worked with software/hardware related to Data acquisition (NI-DAQ).

Production Engineer, Toyota group Manufacturing Company (KTTM), Bangalore, India

May 1999-July 2000

·         Responsible for the running of Continuous Line Production cell consisting of 11 CNC machines and 10 manual work stations (Grinders, Turning centers and Rolling Machines). ‘On-the-run’ job involving troubleshooting of process problems, identifying production bottlenecks and minimizing setup time in order to meet production demands. Optimized CNC programs for a wide range of CNC machines and set the machines to deliver maximum output by designing optimal production cycles and reducing down time. Introduced statistical process control by implementing process control charts and conducting process capability studies.

·         Achieved a record production of rollers (120% of target) by continuous process improvement, exceeded the quality requirement of products, which eventually led to the export of rollers to Japan. Accepted additional responsibility and single handedly managed the entire cell during night shifts in order to meet a sudden demand. Accurately maintained production data using ERP software, scheduled preventive maintenance of machineries and efficiently managed tools and instruments.

·         Implemented lean manufacturing techniques like 5S, Kaizen, Toyota Production System (TPS) and Visual control (Andon) in the cell. Achieved a throughput time of 2 days and reduced rejections by 5% following these practices. Successfully supervised up to 20 operators and was actively involved in their personal development, by training them on machineries and CNC programming.

Management Trainee, Toyota group Manufacturing Company (KTTM), Bangalore, India

Nov 1998-May 1999

·         Underwent a cross functional training in Tool Design, Production Planning, Quality Control and Vendor Development departments. Attended a month long practical training at a Machine Tool Manufacturing company, in the fields of Assembly of Machine Tools and CNC part programming.

COMPUTER:               LANGUAGES:             C/C++, Fortran, CNC programming, Assembly programming of Motorola 68HC11 Micro controller and Intel 8085 Microprocessor.

APPLICATIONS: ANSYS 5.6, MatLab 5.3, MS Office Suite, LabWindows CVI, AutoCAD, Sigmaplot 8.0, Pro/E 2000 i2

Memberships:        Student member of ASME and SME (Society of Manufacturing Engineers)
