Process Design Engineer
Responsible for all aspects
of chemical and petroleum process design and project implementation for
various processes, including:
- Developing project scopes and project costs estimates.
- Computer simulation and hand calculation of heat and material balances,
distillation and absorbing tower operations, and flash calculations.
- Performing supporting process calculations and preparing specifications
for all required process equipment items, including vessels and internals,
heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, instruments, control valves and relief
valves.
- Preparing Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrument
Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Reviewing all aspects of design and construction for consistency
and safety, including leading HAZOP and pre-startup (PSSR) reviews.
- Developing procedures and design standards as required to reflect
changes in design policy, experience with previous designs, regulatory
changes, customer design standards and the requirements of specific projects.
- Leading a team of designers and other engineers in process design
efforts.
- Coordinating with equipment and material vendors and construction
contractors to insure timely delivery of equipment and effective project
implementation.
Major Projects have included:

Startup
Engineer for four new sulfuric acid plants, including the world’s largest
single train sulfur burning plant, at Laverton, Western Australia
- On-site small projects team, implementing all aspects of design
and project execution for small ($50K-$500K) capital improvement and maintenance
jobs at Cabot Performance Materials’ Boyertown, PA facility.
- Process development, preliminary design and feasibility study for
a facility to produce 5MM lbs/year of cesium formate, for Cabot Performance
Materials. Facility is operating
at the mine site in Manitoba, Canada.
- Coordination of process
design effort for a major expansion of a Saudi Arabian refinery, involving
the addition or revamp of multiple processing units. Specific responsibilities on this project:
- coordination of collection and dissemination of process data for
existing refinery units
- writing the Job Procedures Manual for the project.
- evaluation of competing licensed technologies for several processing
units, on both technical and commercial bases.
- assuring integration between existing units and new facilities
designed by various licensors and by FW.
- Design of a distillate hydrotreater for Shell International Petroleum
Maatschappij, in SIPM's offices in The Hague, Netherlands.
- Project engineering for a facility to produce pharmaceuticals for
clinical trials for Eli Lilly & Co.
- Design, procurement and startup of a distillation column to produce
semiconductor grade hydrogen bromide from technical grade material for
a major specialty gas manufacturer.

Responsible for regulatory
compliance for hazardous material storage, underground and above ground
storage tank registration and testing (MUST), and wastewater discharge
permit (NPDES) programs at numerous company facilities.

Responsible for producing plans,
cost estimates, bills of materials, local permit applications, etc. for
the installation of facilities for the transmission and distribution of
natural gas.
