Blow Molding Process

1. Extruder Screw pushes heated plastic into Accumulator Head

2. Plunger pushes molten plastic out of accumulator die head to form a Parison (a tube-like cylinder of hot plastic)

3. Mold closes on parison and compressed air is introduced, pushing the parison out against the mold cavity surface. While the part is cooling in the mold, material from the extruder refills the accumulator die head for the next shot.

4. Once the plastic is cooled, air is released. The mold opens and part is ready for trimming and other operations, if necessary.

Blow molding is a process of melting granules of thermoplastic by the extrusion process, molding hollow parts much as you see in plastic bottles. Molds are made to shapes desired, in two halves.
