Tooling Engineer 04023



LOCATION:
Kentucky

INDUSTRY: Automotive Systems - Metal forming processes for vehicle or structural programs.

SPECIFIC DUTIES, ACTIVITIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Typical tenure on a program begins with award of business and runs through successful production launch and full ramp-up.
* Support DFM and VE/VA activities with product engineering and the customer engineering groups.
* Analyze product drawings, key characteristics, BOM, and DFMEA to develop overall tooling plans and process flow charts.
* Work in concert with program manager and purchasing to develop tool sourcing plans and establish tier 2 supply specifications.
* Support the development of prototype manufacturing plans including process cost estimates, process flow charts, PFMEA, equipment specifications. Approve process plans submitted by prototype suppliers. Support the procurement and development of these tools.
* Lead the development of high volume manufacturing plans including process cost estimates, process flow charts, PFMEA, equipment specifications. Approve process plans and tool designs of equipment suppliers. Follow progress at the tool shops. Support procurement, development, and launch of the tools.
* Manage engineering change orders and review/approve commercial aspects of tool program.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: · Skills
* Ability to benchmark and deploy best practices, both internal and competitive analysis.
* Proficiency in written communications. Required to write equipment technical specifications, maintain detailed program documentation, and submit monthly activity report.
* Proficiency in oral communications. Required to present project and equipment status presentations on a regular basis (both internal updates and customer presentations)
* The ability to develop and manage tooling and expense budgets.
* Must be willing to travel, for extended periods from time-time (domestic and international) and work off-normal business hours as required

REPORTS TO: · Tooling Manager

SUPERVISES: · N/A

EDUCATION: · BS Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing).

EXPERIENCE OR EQUIVALENT: · Three to five years tooling (shop floor) experience.
* Three to five years project engineering experience.
* Plant or process start-up experience strongly preferred.
