INDUSTRY: Marine & Protective Coatings

SPECIFIC DUTIES, ACTIVITIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Routine maintenance and housekeeping of the laboratory - Ordering supplies - Safety inspections - Non-routine analysis of paint samples (chips & liquid paint). Instrumentation to include: - FT-infrared spectroscopy and micro spectroscopy - Wet methods as necessary - Scanning electron microscopy and EDS - Various ASTM methods pertaining to paints and coatings - GC-MS and pyrolysis-GC-MS - Metallographical sample preparation - Other projects as directed by supervisor - Maintenance of quality records - Report writing for assigned projects - Routinely apply or translate academic knowledge of chemistry and physics to his/her understanding of analytical procedures - Use and maintain laboratory glassware/reagents/apparatus in accordance with good laboratory practices - Adapt published methods work requirements

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Computer literate, i.e. knowledgeable about Windows 3.1, 95, 98,2000 Pro Operating Systems and familiar with basic architecture of PC's and knowledgeable about use of basic applications, such as word processing, database and spreadsheet applications.

You must be legally available to work in the US, all status except those with temporary work authorization, such as student in practical training.

REPORTS TO: Manager

SUPERVISES: N/A

EDUCATION: Bachelor Degree and academic focus on analytical chemistry

EXPERIENCE OR EQUIVALENT: Should take initiative and be a self-starter. Should have good written and oral communication skills
