INDUSTRY: Injection Molding
SPECIFIC DUTIES, ACTIVITIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Construct,
alter and/or revise molds -- some of extremely precise and complex nature.
Dismantle molds, some extremely complex, to determine necessary repairs
or revisions. Evaluate, study, and perform necessary duties with little
or no instruction. Design and draw tooling components and work from these
drawings when applicable. Perform all detail work, some extremely complex,
with little or no instruction. Fit and assemble all newly fabricated components
to achieve desired result. Set up and operate all types of toolroom equipment
and has the ability to improvise where proper and accurate equipment is
limited. Work from complicated drawings and sketches and understand geometric
dimensioning, tolerances, and blueprint terms. Is proficient in and works
with advanced shop mathematics and precision measuring instruments. Make
necessary computations relating to speeds and feeds of tools and equipment.
Has basic knowledge of tool steels and their specific application. Heat
treats steel, tempers, and then "Rockwells" to ascertain desired hardness.
Understands hones and polishing products and an apply these products to
produce finishes equivalent to S.P.E., S.P.I. #1.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Be able to
trouble shoot at the press and do work at the press. Be able to handle
whatever comes in - hot runner, unscrewing, repair, mold cleaning, remove
plastic, good knowledge of many different molds. Sense of urgency - back
to the press quickly. Can interact with production and moldmakers. Communication
skills. Documentation skills. Welding experience desirable. Wire EDM and
CNC sinker experience a plus. Ability to handle working with close tolerances.
Good safety habits. Good attendance. Ability to work independently. Must
want to work off-shift.
REPORTS TO: Tooling Supervisor
SUPERVISES: n/a
EDUCATION: HS or GED; plus two years
of advanced education or specialized training in tool and die making.
Journeyman preferred or equivalent experience.
EXPERIENCE OR EQUIVALENT: Over thirty-six
months related experience.
