INDUSTRY: Assembly operations

SPECIFIC DUTIES, ACTIVITIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide direction and priorities for assigned department. Motivate and coach people to achieve 100% performance in all areas of their jobs. Ensure procedures are correct, planning is sound, objectives are firm and goals are realistic.

Develop achievement goals for direct reports based on overall departmental goals. Monitor employee performance against objectives and provide feedback and follow-up consistently to ensure that goals are met. Participate in area process, product and engineering projects, i.e. new model development, tooling or process changes, schedule changes and line balancing. Identify quality problems with products and/or processes through contacts with engineers and operators. Develop countermeasures to eliminate problems permanently and monitor implementation. Supervise direct reports, set daily work schedules and priorities, control attendance and overtime, maintain employee records, respond to personnel issues, and adhere to company and department policies in carrying out supervisory responsibilities. Train employees on assembly methods and quality standards. Work with procurement to schedule material shipment, maintain accurate inventory, conduct vendor audits and solve problems, to maintain quality standards and control scrap and non-conforming materials. Work with engineering in building pilot and pre-pilot models in order to understand ECNs as they affect products and materials. Enforce safety and hazardous materials procedures. Responsible for accident investigation, writing corrective actions on accidents and evaluating employee restrictions as they apply to assembly operations.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Requires special knowledge in a professional or technical field normally acquired through four (4) years of college, vocational or technical school training resulting in a Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

SUPERVISES: n/a

EDUCATION: Bachelor's in Engineering.

EXPERIENCE OR EQUIVALENT: Requires a minimum of approximately three (3) to four (4) years of progressively more difficult experience in the same or related field or equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of Lean and Cell manufacturing and Six Sigma are considered a plus.
