Plastics injection molding Technology on Tour

Arburg, one of the leading global manufacturers of injection molding machines for plastics processing, visits its customers in the U.S.

With its series of international events, “Technology on Tour 2008”, Arburg is visiting its customers on-site and presenting its current corporate objective “Energy Efficiency Allround” from a theoretical and a practical viewpoint. Together with the US-subsidiary, three events have been organized in North America in order to present the subject of energy efficiency to the industry and to introduce Arburg’s associated range of plastics technology, products and consultation services. More than 140 customers visited the events in the Arburg Technology Centers (ATC).

The objective of all three events was to make the participants aware of the issue of energy efficiency, to highlight the wide spectrum of energy-saving potential and to trigger appropriate changes in plastics injection molding company production processes in the medium term.

Thanks to decades of experience and its extensive process knowledge, Arburg is available as a point of contact and offers its customers an extensive range of consulting services on the subject of energy efficient production.

The central focus of all the events is a specialist presentation in which the plastics injection molding machine, the mold and the overall process is examined in detail with regard to energy consumption. The overall energy consumption in terms of material preparation, molding and the cooling process is analyzed and optimization potential with respect to the plastics injection molding machine, mold and system availability is highlighted.

Technology on Tour in the USA
Three Technology on Tour events took place in the USA in June: In Elgin (IL) on June 5, in Irvine (CA) on June 12, and last but not least, a Liquid-Silicone-Rubber-Seminar (LSR) in Minneapolis (MN) on June 17. “All three seminars were well attended and the technical presentations were very well received by the participants. The feed-back we have received tells us that our technically competent presentations met their demand for information”, said Friedrich Kanz, President of Arburg USA, after the three US-events.

Elgin (IL), June 5, 2008
Elgin hosted the first of the Technology on Tour events in the USA this year. In the Arburg Technology Center Midwest in Elgin, a total of 40 participants attended. Arburg’s presentation regarding “Integrated Manufacturing Systems” was followed by the guest speaker’s abstract about “Understanding the uses and benefits of In-Mold Manufacturing” by Electroform.

Moldflow Corporation discussed this same topic by presenting through a process simulation how to improve manufacturability. The central presentation discussed Arburg Technologies, energy efficiency of the Arburg machines and their energy-saving potential. The event concluded with practical machine demonstrations in the show room of the Technology Center.

Irvine (CA), June 12, 2008
Irvine observed with 65 attendees the highest number of participants of this customer oriented event in North America so far. A total of four presentations gave an insight into the topic energy efficiency. Like in Elgin, two presentations discussed “Integrated Manufacturing Systems“. The first one by Dauntless Molds was about questions regarding mold design and development. The final lecture presented the highlights of the 2008 Arburg Technology Days in Lossburg in April of this year. The topic energy efficiency was discussed in depth, especially the possibilities offered by the cost-effective Arburg machines. Machine demonstrations in the recently opened Technology Center rounded up the theoretical presentations.

Minneapolis (MN), June 17, 2008
The event in Minneapolis with 40 attendees focused on LSR processing, and the first presentation was all about Arburg’s LSR technology. The Wacker Group gave a lecture on LSR materials and development, whereas Roembke Manufacturing and Design pointed out the importance of “Low Volume Tooling Strategies“. Finally a presentation about Microshot LSR Molding at Arburg concluded the program. This seminar also received a lot of positive feedback from the customers for its technical presentations.
