Neopor for thermal insulation and packaging insulates better Using much less material, Neopor, an expandable polystyrene, provides better insulating performance than classical materials for thermal insulation and packaging applications.
Neopor* is an improved form of Styropor*, BASF's classic among insulating materials. Neopor is made of blowing agent containing and thus expandable polystyrene (EPS) granules. Using an innovative technique, BASF has succeeded in integrating infrared absorbers and reflectors into the foam. They prevent the conduction of heat even at low material densities. Thus, Neopor provides a much better insulating performance than classical material because it insulates as good as, for example, Styropor, using much less material. Neopor panels are also approximately half the weight of their Styropor counterparts. Neopor - The future in the realm of thermal insulation Neopor EPS is the innovative refinement of the classic BASF invention for insulation and packaging, Styropor. Foams made of Neopor are silver-gray because they contain graphite, which considerably enhances the insulating capacity. Insulating materials made of Neopor offer advantages over other materials in terms of cost-effectiveness and are instrumental in saving resources and protecting the environment. Moreover, the value of buildings fitted with thermal insulation made of Neopor is enhanced and the living comfort is significantly improved.
The photo at right shows the bead-shaped particles after processing into foam blocks for panels and packaging materials. This image allows the viewer to explore structures that would otherwise only be seen by analytical chemists. State-of-the-art technologies such as scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy help to create a genuinely different view of the world. This spectacular picture comes from current research being conducted at BASF. Advantages of Neopor in comparison to standard EPS Foam manufacturers can save up to 50% raw material for the same lambda value and installers can work with panels that are 50% lighter in weight or up to 20% thinner. Consequently, if only limited space is available for the insulation, as is often the case in the renovation of old buildings, the insulating panels made of Neopor can be up to 20% thinner and provide the same level of insulation at the same density. Insulating materials made of Neopor are suitable for new construction but especially for the restoration of old buildings. Typical applications are:
