Focus on automotive leather and new developments BASF to showcase new developments for the automotive leather sector including resins, fillers, topcoats and compact products in April at FIMEC Brazil.
From April 8 through 11, 2008 the 32nd International Fair of Leather, Chemicals, Components and Accessories, Equipment and Machinery for Footwear and Tanneries (FIMEC) will be taking place in Novo Hamburgo, Brazil. As in previous years BASF will present products for the leather industry. This year at FIMEC the company is focusing on automotive leather and new developments. Specifically with the requirements of the leather industry in South America in mind, a new finishing concept has been developed that allows the customer more flexibility with fewer products. The range comprises resins, fillers, topcoats and compact products. The new concept was based on a wide-ranging market analysis. “It is only with new ideas and an outstanding price-to-performance ratio that we are able to capture the market,” says Adriano Magalhaes, who is responsible for BASF’s South American leather business. “The system offers our customers more flexibility in production and more opportunities for varying their articles.” In the automotive leather sector, the company is presenting an extensive range based on its global expertise over many years. BASF’s own experts from Europe have supported their South American colleagues with the latest developments and trends. This year, apart from the extensive range of proven products for the entire process, the company is presenting some innovative products and processes. Highlights include the new Lipoderm* Liquor E-X range, Basyntan* EH-IS, and Lepton* Binder LB-GU, which was developed specifically for the South American market. “We have a long tradition of excellence in the leather market in South America where we have recently invested in state-of-the-art technical service centers and production,” says Thomas Sattler, who is responsible for BASF’s global leather business. “With the help of new and innovative products we want our customers to be even more successful, as is our aim according to BASF’s values and principles.” A team from Brazil and Argentina will advise customers on the booth. With the 5 products in the Lipoderm* Liquor E-X range it is possible to achieve any conceivable stylish effect on every kind of leather – and to do this with an optimum price-to-performance ratio. Chrome stability, low odor, high lightfastness and a super-soft handle are just a few of the many advantages of this line of products. With Basyntan EH-IS, BASF is starting an offensive against lost time, waste of materials and high costs during tanning: Basyntan EH-IS makes the leather immune to iron stains, so it no longer has to be masked specifically, and an entire processing step is eliminated. Furthermore, grain fineness and tightness are improved considerably, and the cutting yield is increased. This product is ideally suited for the production of automotive and furniture leathers. Lepton Binder LB-GU was developed specifically for the South American
market. It does not stick, so it is particularly suitable for the finishing
of soft, buffed types of leather. Any embossing has very sharp contours
and the leathers can be piled up without any problem. Other advantages
are high fastness levels and an outstanding price-to-performance ratio.
This product is suitable for all standard leather articles, especially
