Designing appeal and functionality into nonwovens At Index 2008, Ciba presents nonwovens, textiles and fiber producers enhanced effects and expanded services to differentiate and help them excel in the market.
At stand 1158, with the theme “Designing appeal and functionality into
nonwovens”, Ciba* will be presenting a range of enhanced effects for nonwovens
at Index 2008 in Geneva from April 15-18, 2008.
“Visitors to our stand at Index 2008 will see how we help our customers to make nonwovens soft, colorful, absorbent, durable and safe using cost-effective processes,” said Soke Meng Chan, Global Head of Ciba’s Industry Segment Textile Fibers. “In addition to products and processes, we offer customers the benefits of our research in nonwovens and extensive support with services, such as the new testing facilities provided by the pilot meltblown machine.” The novel vis-breaking technology allows nonwovens producers to use standard polypropylene grades such as spunbond, recycled materials, and fiber scrap to design meltblown nonwovens with outstanding liquid barrier and mechanical properties. The technology provides high flexibility in raw material sourcing and opens up new options for the design of nonwovens for filters and wipes, including for the hygiene and medical sectors, thereby helping nonwovens producers to differentiate and excel in the market. The new RAVOtec pilot meltblown machine installed on Ciba premises allows simulation of additive processing before scale-up at customer companies. Tests run on the pilot line will help customers to speed up commercialization, saving them time and resources in evaluating additives.
Ciba will also feature products designed to provide the fiber industry
with various effects. These include Ciba IRGASURF* HL 560 hydrophilicity
additive, Ciba FLAMESTAB* NOR* 116 halogen-free flame retardant for polyolefins,
Ciba CHIMASSORB* 2020 light and thermal stabilizer and colorants such
as Ciba CROMOPHTAL* and Ciba IRGALITE*, which add appeal as well as ensuring
immediate identification – an important attribute for medical and hygiene
