Kennametal tooling comparison system saves millions

Metalworking plants around the world benefit from the Kennametal tooling comparison system representing a savings of over $169 million.

Savings for North American manufacturers who tested Kennametal tooling in head-to-head comparisons with competitors’ products totaled an estimated $115.8 million for the 11-month period ended June 1, 2008, according to Kennametal Inc. The figure for manufacturing customers worldwide who ran similar tests in the same time period brings the global total to $169.5 million.

“It’s important to note these figures are based on customer-supplied data captured in actual trials for metalworking plants,” says Steve Parker, Senior Staff Engineer, Global Customer Solutions at Kennametal. “While a major milestone, it represents only a fraction of the potential savings available to manufacturers worldwide.”

Tooling comparisons are available from Kennametal for metalworking customers around the world. “Each test may represent different products and applications with unique parameters, but the overall goal is to capture and manage data for ongoing production advantages wherever manufacturing is taking place,” says Parker. “Numerous lean manufacturing programs emphasize continually increasing efficiencies and reducing waste. This is lean made real.”

The Kennametal tooling comparison system is also tied into the company’s Global Customer Support system for the same reason – increased customer support worldwide. “We’re servicing all global markets with English-language support from our Latrobe headquarters, with additional service in the major European languages from our operation in Furth, Germany,” says Ron D. Davis, Global Manager, Customer Application Support, Education and Development at Kennametal. “Kennametal as well as many of our customers have global operations. Our expanded service, global footprint, and multiple languages allow us to support European, Asian, and American transplants throughout the world. Wherever a customer chooses to manufacture their products around the globe, Kennametal Customer Application Support can provide consistent industry leading-support.”

Customers buy approximately $2.4 billion annually of Kennametal products and services.
