Plastics industry leader to head KraussMaffei IMM division

A leader in the plastics industry, Dr Karlheinz Bourdon, will take over as managing director of the Injection Moulding Machinery division of KraussMaffei Technologies.

Effective February 1, 2008, Dr. Bourdon, a manager with 22 years of industry experience, moves to KraussMaffei GmbH in Munich from Milacron, where he was president of global plastics machinery, responsible for Milacron’s worldwide operations in injection moulding, blow moulding and extrusion machinery.

“I’m delighted that in Dr. Bourdon KraussMaffei has gained a manager with substantial international experience and many years’ know-how in our industry. He will continue our drive to expand the outstanding position of our injection moulding machinery business,” emphasized Dr. Dietmar Straub, CEO of KraussMaffei AG.

As Injection Moulding Machinery (IMM) managing director, Dr. Karlheinz Bourdon (50) automatically has a seat on the Executive Committee of KraussMaffei AG. In terms of sales, KraussMaffei is world market leader in machines and systems for plastics and rubber processing.

Dr. Bourdon’s close connection with the plastics industry dates from 1985 when he began work on his doctorial thesis at the Institute for Plastics Processing at the RWTH Aachen. His career has already included a successful stint with KraussMaffei, as manager of the Systems Technology unit. He held this post from 1990 until he joined the plastics machinery company Ferromatik Milacron as director of development and design. He subsequently became production manager and then plant manager with this company. In 2000, he was appointed managing director of Ferromatik Milacron, and from 2001 he took on responsibility for all Milacron’s engineering activities in Europe. In 2003, Dr. Bourdon became president of Global Plastics Machinery responsible for Milacron’s worldwide activities in injection moulding, blow moulding and extrusion.

KraussMaffei is deeply grateful to Manfred Reichel, who has managed the Injection Moulding Machinery division in a provisional capacity since August 2007. He will now continue on his main post as managing director of Extrusion Technology. As CEO Dr. Dietmar Straub pointed out, “In the past six months, Manfred Reichel has done a magnificent job of taking our IMM division forwards, while at the same time mastering the demanding tasks involved in heading up our Extrusion Technology division. I would like to take this opportunity of thanking him again for continuing to put his profound market know-how in this sector at our disposal and for giving the IMM division of KraussMaffei the benefit of his strategic and administrative support.”
