High powered products in the rubber segment

LANXESS Technical Rubber Products business unit at the international trade show Caoutchouc Caucho Gomma for the rubber and polymer industry.

Caoutchouc Caucho Gomma is one of the most significant international trade shows for the rubber and polymer industry, and from May 20 to 22, 2008, the LANXESS Technical Rubber Products (TRP) business unit will be there presenting its diverse range of rubber products for sophisticated technical applications.

At the stand measuring 50 m2, in Hall 10 of the Euroexpo Center in Lyon, the products showcased will include the new, ultra-high ACN (acrylonitrile) grades of the expanded Therban line (HNBR, hydrogenated nitrile rubber). Until now, no fully hydrogenated HNBR rubber grades containing more than 44 per cent ACN were available in the marketplace. The combination of high ACN content and full hydrogenation offers an extraordinary high level of resistance to aggressive media, such as urea in AdBlue systems or the latest generation of flex fuels. Other applications, such as stators for drill heads in oil mining, require not only superior media resistance, but also very good flow characteristics in the rubber on account of the elongated part geometries.

Another highlight is the transparent rubber Levamelt (ethylene vinyl acetate copolymers), used in the production of solar modules for embedding and fixing the individual silicon wafers. The self-adhesive Levamelt films, just 0.5 millimeters thick, eliminate the need for subsequent crosslinking. The advantage is that fitting is much faster. In addition, flame-retardant cables coated with Levapren enhance the safety of the photovoltaic installation.

The rubber specialists from Leverkusen also will be introducing the new, high-performance rubber additive Nanoprene, a significant development in the production of "green tires." Added to rubber blends used to make tire treads, this material considerably reduces abrasion. As tires are subject to wear, the longer service life they now can achieve helps to save money and protect the environment. In contrast to many other new innovations in the tire rubber segment, this additive can be used to improve abrasion resistance without compromising on rolling resistance and wet grip.

Representatives of LANXESS’s Butyl Rubber, Polybutadiene Rubber and Rubber Chemicals business units also will be on hand to answer questions about synthetic rubber, its processing and application, at Caoutchouc Caucho Gomma in Lyon, France, from May 20 to 22, 2008.
