Engineering thermoplastics trading biz boosts portfolio Engineering thermoplastics trading and consultancy specialist improves and strengthens its portfolio with the addition of PPE polymers.
Man & Materials nv has strengthened its service offering to customers in the electrical, electronic and automotive sectors with the addition of Polyphenylene ether (PPE) polymer to its extensive product portfolio. The acquisition of distribution rights for Blue Star New Chemical Materials Company’s PPE polymer in Europe and the Americas boosts Belgium-based M&M’s current ranges of engineering thermoplastics, and industrial quality and regrind engineering plastics including Polycarbonate, Polyamide, Polybutylenetherephthalate (PBT) and alloys, Acrylonitrile Butadien Styrene (ABS), and polyester-based thermoplastic elastomers (TPE). Polyphenylene ether, also known on the market as PPO, is an amorphous thermoplastic polymer used primarily for blending with other polymers to enhance their thermal, mechanical and flammability performance, and to reduce the smoke density of final compounds. It offers high heat resistance, with a glass transition temperature of approx 220 degrees Celsius, low flammability without halogen content and excellent mechanical properties. These include low water absorption, good mechanical strength, minimal creep at elevated temperatures, excellent electrical properties and good hydrolytical resistance. This combination of benefits makes PPE ideal for use in appliance and
machine housing, particularly where water-handling is required, for structural
components for electronic products, and for automotive wheel covers and
grills. PPE is available both in powder form and as compacted agglomerate for applications where reduced dusting tendency is important. The material complies with the RoHS directive 2002/95/EC and its subsequent amendments regarding PCB and PCN content. For further information on Man & Materials N.V., an engineering thermoplastics
