The new MAN Sustainability Report explains how the company is currently
assuming responsibility at ecological, economic and social levels and
the projects involved.
The term "sustainability" may be a fairly recent creation,
but the concept behind it is not. The fact that MAN can look back over
a history of 250 years is in itself an expression of sustainable management
that has ensured the success and long-term future of the company and its
employees over and over again.
Core areas having the greatest implications for the environment are examined
closely in the 2007/2008 report now published, particularly in terms of
climate change and the company´s ongoing existence, as well as the
welfare of its employees.
This includes on the one hand the stage of technical development reached
by MAN products. Achievements range from the pioneering lead held by MAN´s
hybrid-drive buses to various processes for reducing emissions and fuel
consumption in the case of trucks and large-bore diesel engines, as well
as technology to promote the production and use of alternative fuels.
Each of these measures has a positive impact on the CO2 balance.
Another section deals with MAN´s production processes. Improvements
not only have a positive effect on the raw materials and energy balances,
but also ensure the high quality of MAN products and allow for sustainable
handling of market changes.
MAN is aware of its social responsibility on the global markets. Examples
of projects all over the world demonstrate how MAN is able to exert a
positive influence on value creation and development at a local level.
In this context energy is a key issue, the various divisions spanning
the fields of excavation, production, transport and refining, as well
as the use of valuable resources.
Last, but not least, sustainable management means skilful handling of
know-how and experience in the form of employees. Among other things,
the Sustainability Report describes how MAN ensures that decades of experience
gained by important members of staff are passed on even beyond the end
of their active working life and how young talent and lifelong learning
are encouraged.
The 2007/2008 Sustainability Report is available in PDF format on the
Man AG website in both German and English. The report can also be ordered
on the site in the form of a printed brochure.
