JV to manufacture WhisperGen microcogeneration system Mondragon and Meridian Energy set up a joint venture to manufacture the innovative WhisperGen microcogeneration system for domestic use.
The Mondragon Corporacion Cooperativa (MCC) and Meridian Energy Limited, a state-owned electricity provider from New Zealand, have announced the setting up of a Joint Venture (JV) for the manufacture in Spain of the innovative WhisperGen microcogeneration system, which will be distributed in the European market. The partners in the JV are currently designing the details of the production plant that will be located in the Basque Country and plan to be able to supply the first units for next winter 2008-09. The WhisperGen microcogeneration system is gas supplied and is for domestic use. It acts as an efficient central heating boiler, generating at the same time electricity which can be transferred to the grid. The system has been developed in New Zealand by Whisper Tech, a subsidiary of Meridian Energy.
This WhisperGen microcogeneration system (mCHP) is causing a real silent revolution in the field of power generation and is set to replace the traditional central heating boiler in many markets. WhisperGen offers users big advantages, as it is a better solution for getting central heating and complementary electrical power, as it lowers the cost of energy, reduces the dependence on big power stations and cuts CO2 emissions. Meridian Energy Limited is the biggest generator and provider of electricity in New Zealand and is owned 100% by the Government of New Zealand. The electricity generated by Meridian Energy comes exclusively from renewable energy sources. The Mondragon Corporacion Cooperativa is the biggest business group in the Basque Country and the seventh biggest in Spain, with activities in the Financial, Industrial and Distribution areas, and a strong presence in the Knowledge field, mainly in Education and Research.
