Rohm and Haas New Adhesives for Protective Films New Robond series pressure sensitive adhesives from Rohm and Haas provide protection for a variety of substrates for protective films.
Specialty materials company Rohm and Haas has extended its line of environmentally advanced Robond* adhesives with the addition of the new Robond PS-1000 series of aqueous acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesives for protective applications. Formulated to be direct-coated on polyolefin films used to protect a variety of building products, durable goods and automotive exteriors, this new series offers a range of adhesive levels and properties to meet the widely varying tack and adhesion requirements of the rapidly growing protective films market. The result is a broader selection of high-performance, water-based adhesives for protective films than ever before available. Common to all of the water-based acrylic adhesives in the new Robond PS-1000 line is the easy removability of the film over time, a critical feature for the full spectrum of protective applications. These applications include coated and uncoated metal and smooth surfaces (low to medium adhesion requirements); extruded profile, glass, plastic sheets and painted surfaces (medium adhesion); as well as textiles, carpet and other low surface energy substrates (high adhesion).
Shown in photo at right; making the Impossible Possible. Keeping that nice new look longer, is now easier. Introducing the New Robond PS-1000 series pressure sensitive adhesives from Rohm and Haas. You can apply protection to a variety of substrates; wood, glass, plastics, PVC profile, textiles, uncoated and painted metal surfaces, and more. All with outstanding reliability and no trace of adhesive transfer. Just what you'd expect from the leader in water-based adhesives, an environmentally advanced alternative that offers a range of adhesive levels and properties to meet widely varying tack and adhesion requirements. “With the new Robond PS-1000 series, we’re able to offer protective film manufacturers the right adhesive with the right cross-linker for the right application,” says Frederic Bodino, Rohm and Haas Marketing Manager, Europe-Middle East-Africa Region, Packaging and Building Materials. “And our many years of experience with aqueous acrylic technology enables us to do this with environmentally advanced products that replace solvent-based adhesives.” Technical experts match adhesive to application The diversity of substrates to be protected as well as the environmental conditions they endure often results in a close working relationship between Rohm and Haas technical specialists and protective film manufacturers. According to Matthew Cox, Technical Service Manager, the first step in the technical support process is to determine the key performance criteria needed. “We listen carefully to the customer to understand his end-application requirements,” says Matthew Cox. “This helps us build a more complete picture of his needs so that we can recommend the right product or combination of products to provide the performance required.” For example, will the protective film have to withstand extremes of heat, cold, UV light or rain? What type of surface needs to be protected – aluminum, plastic, glass, textile? “Rohm and Haas has evaluated Robond PS-1000 adhesives over an extremely wide range of surfaces and conditions,” states Cox, “so we know how to help protective film manufacturers address an almost limitless combination of variables.” Rohm and Haas’s aqueous acrylic technology on which Robond PS-1000 adhesives are based provides significant advantages for worker safety and regulatory compliance. These water-based adhesives contain no solvents and therefore eliminate the expense used for solvent recovery or incineration systems, and greatly reduce emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) in finished products.
