Plastics Group wins Workforce Training Fund grant SABIC Innovative Plastics receives USD 663,000 Workforce Training Fund grant for leadership development programs.
SABIC Innovative Plastics has been awarded a $663,000 Workforce Training Fund grant for leadership development from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Workforce Development. The grant was announced today by Massachusetts Lt. Governor Tim Murray during a ceremony at City Hall in Pittsfield, Mass. SABIC Innovative Plastics will work with Babson College in Wellesley, Mass., recognized by the Financial Times as one of the top five institutions globally for leadership development, to create and deliver the leadership programs. Approximately 195 Pittsfield-based SABIC Innovative Plastics employees will attend the program, which will be held at the company’s Global Learning Center in Pittsfield, over the next two years. This program will be added to the core curriculum of leadership courses offered to SABIC Innovative Plastics employees around the world.
“Formal leadership development training has always been a part of our corporate culture and has helped us attract and retain top-flight managers,” said Charlie Crew, president and CEO of SABIC Innovative Plastics. “When GE Plastics was acquired by SABIC, our team no longer had access to the General Electric training resources. Now, with this generous grant from the state and the assistance of Babson College, we’ll be able to quickly initiate training programs to support employees’ leadership advancement and drive business success.” Heather Boulger, executive director, Berkshire County Regional Employment Board, Inc., said, “The Workforce Training Fund has been a great resource for Western Massachusetts employers, particularly because it is so responsive to their specific needs. For example, this grant is unique in its size and its mission – postgraduate business education – to meet the requirements of SABIC Innovative Plastics’ large leadership team. With the help of the Fund, the company will be able to continue its heritage of providing exceptional education and training to employees.” The Workforce Training Fund grant, which will be more than matched by funding from SABIC Innovative Plastics, will support development in two key areas: mid-career leadership and experienced career leadership. The program is expected to begin in Q4 2008 or Q1 2009. “We are very grateful to Governor Patrick, Secretary Suzanne Bump and her office, Pittsfield Mayor James Ruberto, Senator Benjamin Downing, Representative Smitty Pignatelli and the entire Berkshire County delegation, Heather Boulger, and the Career Services office, all of whom enthusiastically supported our grant application,” Crew said. “We are ready to move quickly on this project and anticipate great results for our employees, the Berkshires, and our company.” If you're an employer looking to fill a job opening, click here to find out about posting your job listing through Jobwerx.com.
