Sidel opens Packaging Development
and Tooling Center in Mexico
As business booms for its Mexican customers, packaging equipment provider
Sidel invests 3 million euros in a project designed to offer proximity,
responsiveness and service.
In April 2008, Sidel is opening a new Packaging Development & Tooling
Center in Guadalajara (Mexico). This 1,200-sq-meter facility will serve
the needs of Sidel’s Mexican and Central American customers. This local
center offers the full range of Sidel’s plastic bottle manufacturing services
including bottle shape design, industrial qualification, mold production
and commissioning. The center will have an annual manufacturing capacity
of some 2,000 molds per year that can be used on all blow molding machines
and with all processes, even for non-Sidel brand equipment.
Molds in four weeks
With a four-week lead time and faster delivery due to more efficient logistics,
Sidel offers greater responsiveness to meet the demands of a rapidly expanding
local market. Mexico is actually the world’s largest consumer nation of
sodas and is experiencing a surge in demand for “health and wellness”
products. In this particular segment, the appeal of the packaging is pivotal
and has resulted in a proliferation of bottle shapes and capacities. As
a result, mold orders are skyrocketing. “We appreciate Sidel’s strategy,”
comments Ernesto Lappe Oliveras, operations director for Amcor PET Mexico.
“In our highly demanding and changeable market, having a world-class mold
manufacturer in the region meets our needs in record time.” Sidel also
offers prototype molds and mold repair services at the center.

Top-notch quality
Having been trained at the Packaging Development & Tooling Center
in Atlanta (United States), the Guadalajara team puts all of Sidel’s knowledge
and expertise to work locally. Sixteen specialists apply Sidel’s process
knowledge and use high-tech production tools and information systems already
in use at the Group’s other locations. Molds made locally reflect the
same first-rate quality due to Sidel’s proprietary production standardization
and quality approach.
In Guadalajara, this Packaging Development & Tooling Center adds value
to the existing Service Center. That center enables Sidel to respond quickly
to customer needs throughout the life cycle of their equipment. That ability
recently earned Sidel special recognition. In late 2007, Sidel de Mexico
received the “award for service excellence” from the Modelo Group, Mexico’s
beer industry leader.
Sidel is one of the world’s top suppliers of beverage packaging equipment.
Sidel has six Packaging Development & Tooling Centers around the world:
Atlanta (United States), Sao Paulo (Brazil), Guadalajara (Mexico), Octeville-sur-mer
and Paris (France), and Shanghai (China). Sidel produced 19,000 molds
in 2007.
