Silgan packaging company closes on White Cap closures Silgan Holdings, a leading supplier of consumer goods packaging products, completes acquisition of White Cap closures business in Brazil.
Silgan Holdings Inc., a leading supplier of consumer goods packaging products, announced today, as part of its previously reported acquisition of Amcor Limited's White Cap closures business in Europe, Asia and South America, the completion of the delayed closing in Brazil. Silgan White Cap is a leading worldwide supplier of an extensive range of metal, composite and plastic vacuum closures to consumer goods companies in the food and beverage industries. Silgan White Cap Brazil is a leader in these markets in Brazil and certain other South American countries. Silgan Holdings is a leading manufacturer of consumer goods packaging products with annual net sales of approximately $2.9 billion in 2007. Silgan operates 69 manufacturing facilities in North and South America, Europe and Asia. In North America, the Company is the largest supplier of metal containers for food products and a leading supplier of plastic containers for personal care products. In addition, Silgan is a leading worldwide supplier of metal, composite and plastic vacuum closures for food and beverage products. Over a year ago, Jan. 8, 2007, Silgan acquired Amcor Limited's White Cap closures businesses in China, Philippines and Venezuela. The addition of these three operations provided Silgan with a position in the rapidly growing Asian and Latin American markets. Founded in 1987 by Co-Chairmen of the Board, Phil Silver and Greg Horrigan, Silgan has grown to be a leading consumer goods packaging company. Its primary lines of business are metal food containers, plastic containers and metal, composite and plastic vacuum closures. The Company takes great pride in the fact that its products contain some of the world's best known branded consumer products, including Campbell's Soup, Del Monte Fruits and Vegetables, Listerine and Friskies Pet Food. Since their inception in 1987, they have acquired twenty-two businesses. As a result of the benefits of these acquisitions and organic growth, they have increased their overall share of the U.S. metal food container market from approximately 10% in 1987 to approximately half of the market in 2007. Their plastic container business has also improved its market position since 1987, with sales increasing by more than sevenfold to $627.4 million in 2007. Additionally, through acquisitions they are now a leading worldwide manufacturer of metal, composite and plastic vacuum closures for food and beverage products.
