BASF low VOC Polyurethane
foams help fogging phenomena
News Center - New Elastoflex from BASF contains
fewer Volatile Organic Compounds and meets car makers new requirements
for auto interior materials
January 30, 2005 - Jobwerx News - Elastoflex, from BASF,
a semi-rigid polyurethane foam used as backing for soft instrument panels
and door trim skin in automobiles, meets car makers' new requirements
for materials that contain fewer Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs),
while maintaining very high physical property standards.
In applications with Mercedes M Class vehicles in North America and
Europe, Elastoflex helps to prevent condensation on the interior side
of windshields that can create the fogging phenomena.
Plastics used in automotive interiors emit chemicals that condense on
windshields over time to create a light film that can obstruct your
view. The new BASF semi-rigid polyurethane foam technology addresses
the low-molecular-weight VOCs that causes the fogging effect.
Automobile manufacturers are constantly improving their products, and
are requiring anti-fogging materials for use in automotive interiors.
The new Elastoflex low VOC polyurethane is the first to meet and exceed
the requirements in automotive interiors and the standards for foam
backing requiring these anti-fogging materials.
BASF Polyurethanes is a leading, fully integrated polyurethane chemical
producer. Thier expertise ranges from the production of basic polyurethane
raw materials to the development of custom formulated systems and special
