Parma, Italy -- November 29, 2003-- SIG Simonazzi - Press Release: SIG-SM12-e. The first aseptic line in 1999 and now another in 2003.

Both supplied by SIG Simonazzi. With an output of almost one billion filled containers a year, Spumador has again placed its trust in the Parma-based company, considered a privileged partner in meeting the growing demand for high value-added products

The first Simonazzi aseptic line was installed by Spumador at its Caslino in Piano plant in 1999. Designed for far from easily handled products, such as those containing fruit pulp, or teas, the line can also aseptically fill beverages with a delicate pH (up to 7) in PET bottles.

The complete line has an output of 13,000 bph and is still in excellent shape. At its heart is the Simonazzi Aseptica R rotary filler. The order included not only the supply of the machine but also the piping, cabling, commissioning, operator training, and post-start-up assistance.

On the grounds of this very positive experience, Spumador turned to SIG Simonazzi for another strategic line to be installed in the Sant’Andrea Bagni facility in the province of Parma.

A new line for fruit juices, teas, and milk-based products

The new “aseptically configured” line will handle fruit juices, teas, and milk-based products. The project has been divided into two stages. Initially the line will be based on a linear filler with an output of 6,000 bph for 1.5 l bottles. Then in spring 2004 a rotary filler will be installed with a rated output of 24,000 bph for 1.5 l bottles.

Naturally the containers are made of PET, with 38 mm plastic screw tops and 38 mm flat and sport caps. Six bottle sizes can be handled: 1.5 l, 1 l, 0.75 l, 0.5 l, 0.33 l, and 0.2 l. The bundle is heat shrink-wrapped with plastic only.

The line required an investment of around 20 million euros, a very healthy figure considering that Spumador usually dedicates around 15% of its turnover (around 100 million euros a year) to new investments.

The key to Spumador's success is therefore the aseptic system, a process enabling the company to include among its many customers (Carlsberg, Misura, Fitgar, and a host of big retailer brands), Coca-Cola with its Nestea, Minute Maid and Cappy products, whose range includes 100% fruit juices.

PET flexibility boosts marketing Potential

The Spumador strategies start from a very clear vision sharply focused on the market, innovative technologies, and a solid partnership with SIG Simonazzi that has become increasingly tight knit over the years.

Tullio Tiozzo, Director of Plant and Suppliers at Spumador described the company as follows:

“In addition to being well-known producers of mineral water and soft drinks with our own brands (S. Antonio, S. Francesco, S. Andrea and Spumador), we are fundamentally excellent contractors committed to both industrial production and the private labels of the big names in supermarket chains in Italy, such as Bennet, Carrefour, Conad, Consilia, Coop, Crai, Despar, Esselunga, GS, LD, Lidl, Penny, Selex, Sigma, and Standa.

We guarantee them a product with a long shelf life, constant quality, service, and all the flexibility of PET in terms of marketing. This means customizing the product with specially designed molds and sophisticated labels creating a striking presence on the shelf, which helps build up customer loyalty and sales. But, most importantly, we create products with high added value from the organoleptic point of view, characterized by the health and naturalist features that only the aseptic process can guarantee at present.”
