The jointly developed E-Frame Dolly System (EFDS) won the coveted Manufacturing Logistics category in the Institute of Logistics and Transport's Awards for Excellence.

The Princess Royal made the presentation to William Barratt, manager of LINPAC Materials Handling's automotive business unit and Tony Riordan, supervisor of Ford's materials handling division.

The E-Frame can be used to carry two dollies. They are loaded with stock in the storage area and moved to wherever the stock is required. A pedal mechanism releases the dolly from the E-Frame, which is rolled out and exchanged with an empty load unit from the production line.

EFDS enabled Ford's assembly plant in Cologne - making new Fiesta and Fusion models - to become its first plant to operate without forklift trucks in the production area.
