Tetra Pak chooses ABB's - Industrial IT as automation platform

INSIGHT

Sweden

Tetra Pak, the global supplier of processing and packaging systems for liquid foods, has chosen Industrial IT as the platform for its automation systems.

ABB and Tetra Pak will work together in a joint R&D venture over an initial period of five years to develop automation solutions for liquid food processing. The venture will include supply chain and traceability solutions based on ABB’s Operations Management System.

Some 70 ABB employees from Sweden, Denmark, the Benelux countries and Ireland will join Tetra Pak’s Global Center of Excellence for Food Processing in southern Sweden to work on the projects. They will be working together on a new solution which will gradually replace Tetra Pak’s existing automation system, PlantMaster.

The regulations controlling the food processing industry are becoming as strict as those regulating pharmaceuticals, an industry in which ABB has extensive domain competence. This competence will lend itself to liquid food processing where the demands for traceability, food quality and processing safety are becoming increasingly important. Automation is the key to this.

Tetra Pak is the only total supplier of solutions for the processing, packaging and distribution of liquid foods. Its products are sold in more than 165 markets worldwide.
