World Class Automotive Finish

Seattle, WA, USA--(Jobwerx News)--New Ford GT supercar combines BASF automotive OEM paint technologies, with coatings that demonstrate a flawless finish.

The new limited edition Ford GT supercar, which has turned the heads of car enthusiasts everywhere, features both BASF automotive OEM and automotive refinish coatings together to achieve a rich and durable finish, from primer to clearcoat.

To meet Ford’s exacting standards for appearance and paint performance, the Ford GTs are hand-painted at a new Saleen Special Vehicles (SSV) facility in Troy, Mich. BASF automotive OEM coatings are used for the body of the GT. At the same time, the car’s plastic “add-on” components (such as the hood and the cooling ducts), which are sensitive to the high temperatures normally required for curing OEM coatings, are finished separately with BASF’s Glasurit 55 Line solvent-borne system of primer, basecoat and clearcoat. The result, according to Joe Skurka, Manager of OEM Relations for BASF’s Automotive Refinish business in North America, is a superb overall finish with perfectly uniform color, performance and durability in the car’s body and add-on parts.

“Automotive OEM and refinish coatings used to represent completely different segments of the automotive coatings spectrum,” said Skurka. “Although the requirements for factory-applied coatings still differ from those for refinish coatings, the technologies have tended to converge over the years.

“This convergence results from two factors--a growing customer expectation that body shops are able to match the performance and appearance of factory finishes exactly, and the development of new technologies such as waterborne basecoats and two-component clearcoats. These technologies are perfectly suited for use in low-volume OEM applications—such as for the Ford GT—as well as in body shops. The Glasurit 55 coatings used for the Ford GT deliver precisely the kind of results that collision repair shops are looking for when matching original factory finishes.”
