Black & Decker to add
250 jobs
Seattle, WA, USA--(Jobwerx News)--Maryland based Black & Decker, a
global manufacturer and marketer of power tools and accessories, hardware,
home improvement products, and technology-based fastening systems, plans
on expanding its plant in Jackson, Tenn., and hiring 250 skilled workers.
Gradually beginning this summer through the end of next year, the additional
skilled labor will be added to the Tennessee plant, which was acquired
from Porter-Cable Corp last year, and currently employs about 1,300
people.
A Spokesperson for the Company, advised that the company is moving some
of its steel machining and castings operations to the plant. This change
that will create a significant shift in the skill level of the facility.
With the acquisition last fall of Porter Cable, 350 people lost their
jobs at the Jackson plant, when manufacturing and assembly positions
went south to its Reynosa, Mexico, facility.
As part of Black & Decker's efforts to consolidate its facilities and
save money, the Company has been streamlining the work force and operations
since 2002. 675 people will lose their jobs with the closing of the
Fayetteville, North Carolina facility when the company announced transferring
those operations to Tennessee and Mexico last month.
Restructuring results have saved the company about $155 million so far.
Black & Decker acquired Minnesota-based Pentair, Inc.'s Porter Cable,
Delta, DeVilbiss Air Power, Oldham Saw and Flex businesses in a $775
million all-cash deal in the fall of 2004.
