Oxfordshire, UK and San Jose, CA, USA--March 23, 2004-- Bookham
Technology is pleased to announce the completion of the acquisition
of New Focus on March 8, 2004. New Focus is a leading provider of photonics
and microwave solutions to non-telecom diversified markets, including
the defense, research, industrial, biotech/medical and telecom test
and measurement industries.
New Focus also supplies optics and photonics into the semiconductor
capital equipment market.

8. Bookham Recruits for China Facility
Bookham Technology plc will re-equip the New Focus Inc. test and assembly
facility in Shenzhen, China. The plant will also start supplying transmitter
and receiver optical assemblies, simple amplifiers, connectors and fiber
assemblies. The move, part of a wider strategy by Bookham in Asia, where
the company has seen revenue growth in the last two years, could initially
create up to 200 jobs at the 250,000-square-foot facility, which has extensive
cleanrooms but so far no production machinery installed.
Bookham is looking to staff the new New Focus a test and assembly plant
in Shenzhen, China.
