Seattle, WA, USA--(Jobwerx)--APRIL 20, 2005--Bombardier Completes Automated
People Mover Shuttle At Tampa International Airport, USA.
Bombardier Transportation and other invited guests of the Hillsborough
County Aviation Authority celebrated the official inauguration of the
newly constructed Airside C Terminal at Tampa International Airport. As
part of the Airport’s ongoing construction program, Bombardier refurbished
and upgraded the Automated People Mover (APM) shuttle that operates between
the landside terminal and Tampa’s new state-of-the-art Satellite C Terminal.
Florida Governor, Jeb Bush, presided the celebration, accompanied by Hillsborough
County Commissioner Thomas Scott, Aviation Authority Chairman Alfred Austin,
and other public officials.
This is the second shuttle system to be refurbished and upgraded at
Tampa International Airport. Bombardier’s scope of work for the new
shuttle system included renovation and extension of the guideway, power
rail, guidebeam and station doors, including the reconfiguration of
the existing vehicles from one to two-car trains. Since 1971, Bombardier
has designed and supplied six elevated shuttle systems for Tampa International
Airport, and replaced two of the original lines. Bombardier also maintains
the current fleet of 16 C-100 Series vehicles that operate on the Airport’s
system, as well as the fleet of monorail vehicles.
Raymond T. Betler, President of Bombardier Transport’s Total Transit
Systems said, "Bombardier is very proud to participate in today’s memorable
festivities. Over the past 35 years, we have enjoyed a long-standing
relationship with our valued customer, the Hillsborough County Aviation
Authority." He added: "Our on-time completion of the shuttle system
to the new Satellite C Terminal emphasizes our commitment to the Airport
and our support for the excellent service that the Airport has provided
to its passengers over as many years."
Tampa International Airport was the first airport in the world to deploy
a fully automated people mover system and is host to Bombardier’s longest
running APM system. Today, Bombardier has supplied, and is operating,
fully automated transit systems for airports in Frankfurt, Germany;
Rome, Italy; and Atlanta, Denver, Newark, New York, and San Francisco
USA. Bombardier is also currently supplying APM systems to Spain’s Barajas
International Airport, Heathrow International Airport, United Kingdom,
and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, USA, where it is deploying
the Bombardier CITYFLO 650 automatic train control technology.
