Uzwil, Switzerland --February 08, 2004-- Buhler acquires part of Theysohn-Maschinenbau - Expansion of extrusion activities The global Buhler technology group has acquired parts of the German company Theysohn-Maschinenbau GmbH, effective January 1, 2004. It is thereby expanding its extrusion activities in the field of synthetic raw materials such as powder coatings, plastics. The global Buhler plant and equipment supplier has acquired the TSK extrusion activities of the German company Theysohn-Maschinenbau GmbH from the insolvency assets of the parent company VGT-Gruppe as part of its strategic expansion program. The range of co-rotating, intermeshing twin-screw extruders known by the name of TSK (Theysohn Schneckenkneter, Theysohn Screw Kneader) will be integrated in the Buhler Extrusion Systems business unit and be further developed. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. Following the Group-wide merging of all extrusion applications in the Extrusion Systems business unit and the acquisition of the single-screw extruder activities of MillbankExtrusion in 2003, this new step substantially strengthens Buhler’s synthetic raw materials extrusion business: The acquisition of the TSK unit from former Theysohn Maschinenbau GmbH in Salzgitter, Germany – along with a complete team and an application engineering laboratory – will enable a significant expansion of nonfood extrusion applications. The TSK systems for the extrusion of plastics and other synthetic materials will be further developed, manufactured, and marketed by Buhler. TSK technology is globally acknowledged throughout the nonfood extrusion industry and is an ideal complement to the existing Buhler extrusion applications for the food, feed, pharmaceuticals, and nonfood industries. Through the integration of TSK, Buhler is further strengthening its leadership as a provider of extrusion systems and process solutions. This enables it to act as a global technology partner for efficient production systems, engineering solutions, and the associated services in Food Processing and Chemical Process Engineering. The Extrusion Systems business unit headed by Dr. Markus Hofer will coordinate and bear overall responsibility for all Buhler extrusion activities. Dipl. Ing. Andreas Holt, the general manager of Theysohn Maschinenbau up to now, will be accountable for the center of competence in Braunschweig. About Buhler: Buhler is a global technology group and system partner for the supply of plant, equipment, and process expertise in Food Processing, Chemical Process Engineering, and Die Casting. The Group is a leading supplier of die casting systems. Worldwide, Buhler's roughly 6500 employees generate annual sales of about
1.4 billion Swiss francs. The Group spends substantially on research and
development, tangible assets, human resources and customer training.
