Coca-Cola Enlarges Its Bottling Plant In Ethiopia

February 14, / The company that makes Coca-Cola bottles in Ethiopia has enlarged its plant, which will enable the U.S. soft drink giant to triple production in the eastern African country, officials said Friday. The East Africa Bottling Share Company (EABSC) inaugurated a new wing of its bottling factory in the Ethiopian capital on Thursday, company officials said.

The wing, which cost US$15.15 million (13.73 million euros), will be able to produce 48,000 bottles per hour and was a joint venture between EABSC and Coca Cola Sabco, which oversees production in Africa.

Over the next two years, the two companies plan to invest more than US$11 million into the purchase of new equipment and advertising, officials said. Ethiopia represents a potential market of some 65 million consumers and a huge labor force for the maker of the world's most ubiquitous soft drink.
