INSIGHT

MOSCOW - Ford Motor Co has opened a car manufacturing plant near Saint Petersburg that will produce 25,000 units a year, the company said on its Russian web site.

Ford has invested 150 mln usd in the plant, which will assemble the Ford Focus model and employ 400 staff.

While most components will initially be flown in from abroad, the proportion of components manufactured in Russia should rise to 50 pct over the coming years, NTV television reported, quoting company officials.

Ford and the Russian government signed a deal two years ago to set up the plant, located in the town of Vsevolozhsk.
