Seattle, WA, USA--(Jobwerx)--APRIL 19, 2005--GE Advanced Materials, Quartz has opened the doors to its newly upgraded Polymer Compound Development Lab, located near Cleveland, Ohio. GE's investment marks a significant advance in the company's ability to accelerate product development and innovation cycles for customers by offering joint testing capabilities and more thoroughly researched product recommendations.

GE's $250,000 (USD) investment represents a major step up in its value-added services for customers, and signifies the company's commitment to helping drive profitable growth for its customers.

Improvements to the lab enable customers to collaborate with GE on product development by sharing proof-of-concept and other qualification work with rapid turnaround. In addition, the Polymer Compound Development Lab allows for exploration of next-generation ideas in filler and compound technology.

GE equipped its improved facility with the tools to measure thermal, rheological, and physical performance, enabling OEMs to evaluate the impact of filler technologies on their designs. The lab incorporates state-of-the-art analytical tools to help further advances in the use of fillers in a broad range of electronic applications including thermal interface materials and thermoplastic components.

GE's Polymer Compound Development Lab came online in January 2005, and now offers customers the ability to apply an array of compounding technologies to a wide range of polymers, including silicones, epoxies, acrylics, and thermoplastic resins.

"The investment that GE Advanced Materials made to upgrade this facility signals the company's strong commitment to supporting rapid product development qualification by customers in the electronic and basic materials industries," said Greg Strosaker, industry manager, Electronic Materials, GE Advanced Materials, Quartz. "It showcases our efforts to achieve successful collaboration in a fast-changing environment."

Additional capabilities of GE's Polymer Compound Development Lab include:
  • Compound preparation via various mixing, milling, and blending processes;
  • Sample preparation via pressing, plastics molding, stamping, and milling;
  • Thermal conductivity measurements using laser flash and transient plane source techniques; and
  • Physical measurements of shear, tensile and impact strength, friction performance, viscosity, and other material characteristics.
The Polymer Compound Development Lab is located near Cleveland, but will serve customers globally by enabling GE application development engineers throughout the world to access data and tap into the lab's capabilities remotely.
