IT technologies are essential constituents of modern-day bottling and packaging lines. Syskron GmbH, the IT subsidiary in the group headed by Krones AG, Neutraubling, has developed a range of software products for this purpose, designed for enabling a line to play its intended role to the full: providing the filling industry with an instrument of maximised cost-efficiency. Because the paramount goal of all Syskron’s tools is to increase a line’s productivity, so as ultimately to reduce the costs per unit produced.

Tracking and tracing

Directive 178/2002 of the European Parliament defines a comprehensive safety system covering the entire production chain. Its requirement for traceability in product manufacture and distribution means the subject of tracking and tracing is right at the top of the agenda in the beverage industry.

In terms of in-house logistics, Syskron has created a solutional approach of general validity for a tracking and tracing system, establishing complete-coverage batch tracking from the production line and the dispatch department all the way to the customer.

Within the beverage industry, the specific cost of bottle production is a key variable in the overall price - and competitiveness - of a product. Syskron says that its software can determine almost immediately where the biggest energy consumption within a production line is located.

Syskron’s line management system (LMS) thus constitutes an expanded version of the field-proven LDS packages for bottling and packaging operations. The LMS enables production orders to be given to the various machines in the line from a central location, together with the product parameters concerned.

LDS monitors bottling and packaging lines
The essence of a production data acquisition system is that by recording all data relevant to the process the line’s owner obtains the basic data required for proactively designing and optimizing the production process involved. In the beverage industry itself, clients ask the specific question “what does a bottle cost to produce?” – otherwise known as the total cost of ownership. Syskron’s LDS analytical tools can, for instance, determine almost immediately where the biggest energy consumers are located.

SIPS helps lines live longer
For maintenance and servicing work, Syskron has created a tool enabling the life-cycle costs of bottling and packaging machinery to be reduced. This new program is called SIPS, which stands for Syskron Intelligent Plant Maintenance System. Unplanned line standstills are avoided or minimized by means of appropriate preventive maintenance work. The totality of Syskron’s IT tools ensures plannability, traceability, reduced consumption figures and downtimes, and ultimately holistic line optimization.
