E-Health Insurance

Mar., 22 /Finding insurance these days can be tough, but before you give up on coverage all together, take a look at what Action News found.

He's about to tell you how going online can save you hundreds of dollars every month.

Peter Vassiliou/Center City:

"Get online, fill out an application, and within half an hour, 45 minutes, you can be covered for the next day."

Peter was between jobs, but still wanted to make sure he had health insurance. Peter Vassiliou:

"If you don't have health insurance, you're not just putting yourself at risk, you're putting your family at risk."

But the federally-mandated COBRA coverage was going to cost him $368.00 a month. So, he hunted for alternatives in cyberspace and got coverage from ehealthinsurance.com for just $77.00 a month.

Bob Fahlman/ehealthinsurance.com

"What we provide is a source where people can come, learn about health insurance, shop, compare differnt health insurance plans and actually enroll online."
A variety of retailers provide a way you can comparison shop for insurance online.. in just the past month -e-health-insurance has even started offering short-term insurance

Bob Fahlman:

"Forty percent of the people who come to our site were previously uninsured and the main reason they were uninsured is they didnt' realize how affordable health insurance can be."

One word of caution - after you get a quote online - call and confirm the details of the coverage after getting his insurance - for Peter, it wouldn't cover him if he gets into a motorcycle accident.

Peter Vassiliou/Center City:

"But it wasn't a big deal. I just went right back into e-health insurance and found another provider who would cover me for the motorcycle so it worked out all right."

One more thing - while Peter's COBRA coverage had no deductible - his newfound insurance has a $500.00 deductible and doesn't include dental benefits.

Now usually people use short-term health insurance for just 1 month to 6 months.. but it is available for up to three years.
