Appliances Leader Reaches Agreement

Seattle, WA, USA--(Jobwerx News)--The main appliances facility for Maytag's vertical-axis, top-load washer production ratifies new contract with Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union.

Maytag and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (I.A.M.) Local 554 jointly announced that union members ratified a new four-year contract at the Herrin, Illinois, laundry plant. Maytag's current five-year labor agreement with the I.A.M. Local 554 would have expired on Sunday, June 12, 2005, at 11:59 p.m.

"We want to thank the I.A.M. Local 554 leadership and the Herrin union employees for their willingness to work together to reach this new labor agreement," said Mark Krivoruchka, Maytag's senior vice president of human resources. "The cooperative attitude displayed at Herrin should allow Maytag to remain competitive in our challenging global marketplace and enable Herrin to become the main facility for our vertical-axis, top-load washer production."

In major appliances, Maytag is among the top three companies in the North American market, offering a full line of washers, dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators and ranges under household brand names Maytag®, Hoover®, Jenn-Air®, Amana®, Dixie-Narco® and Jade.

In floor care, Maytag owns the Hoover brand, the market leader in North America and the floor care brand with the highest consumer recognition and buying preference.

In commercial products, Maytag owns Dixie-Narco brand, a leader in refrigerated soft drink and specialty vending machines, as well as, Jade® cooking products.

Maytag also is at the forefront of the appliance industry in seeking stronger energy and water standards, and has worked closely with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in creating new ENERGY STAR criteria for appliances.

Wages, health care and other benefits were addressed in the new contract. Details about the contract were not avaialble. Herrin Laundry Products manufactures top-load washers and certain dryer models.
