Seattle, WA, USA--(Jobwerx)--APRIL 20, 2005--The Mikron Group, a global player in machining and assembly systems and in component production, reported order intake of CHF 93 million and sales of CHF 88 million in the first quarter of 2005. Thus, both new orders (15%) and sales (17%) were significantly higher than the previous year. The performance beat expectations in part. For 2005 the company still anticipates breaking even.

In the Production Equipment segment (machining and assembly systems), the Machining Technology division reported steady robust demand from the automotive industry. Orders from the writing instruments industry were buoyant in the first quarter. The service business also weighed in with a stronger showing. The Assembly Technology division reported satisfactory order intake following a disappointing final quarter in 2004. New orders were in line with expectations and stemmed to a large extent from the automotive industry. The new Polyfeed Standalone feed system met with a high level of acceptance by the market and won the Lyon d'or award at the Industrie Lyon 2005 trade fair for its contribution to productivity.

In the Components segment (production of plastic components), the Plastics Technology division posted an increase in orders with good engineering contents. The trend is important given the production orders this implies. Commercial production for a major project in the field of medical technology proceeded according to plan. Good progress was also achieved here in process stabilization. Implementation of the measures to eliminate the division's losses were on track.
