Fortune names Alcoa one of the most admired companies

PITTSBURGH, PA--February 26, 2004-- Alcoa Named 'Most Admired'
by Fortune Magazine; Named Top Metals Company; Ranks Second Overall
in Social Responsibility
Alcoa (NYSE:AA) has been named one of Fortune Magazine's "Most Admired
Companies" in the leading business publication's annual report on reputation,
which goes on sale next month.
Fortune named Alcoa the "Most Admired Metals Company." In the metals
industry, Alcoa ranked first in each of eight key attributes measured
by the magazine: innovativeness, employee talent, use of corporate assets,
social responsibility, quality of management, financial soundness, long-term
investment value and quality of products and services. This is the ninth
consecutive year Alcoa was ranked the top metals company.
Among all companies in all industries, Alcoa ranked second in terms
of social responsibility.
For its survey of 592 companies in 64 industries, Fortune asked approximately
10,000 executives, directors, and securities analysts to rate companies
in their own industries on the eight criteria.

Alcoa is the world's leading producer of primary aluminum, fabricated
aluminum and alumina, and is active in all major aspects of the industry.
Alcoa serves the aerospace, automotive, packaging, building and construction,
commercial transportation and industrial markets, bringing design, engineering,
production and other capabilities of Alcoa's businesses to customers.
In addition to aluminum products and components, Alcoa also markets
consumer brands including Reynolds Wrap(R) foils and plastic wraps,
Alcoa(R) wheels, and Baco(R) household wraps. Among its other businesses

electrical distribution systems for cars and trucks. The company has
