Plastics RTM Applications Find Release

Seattle, WA, USA--(Jobwerx News)--Advanced mold release from Axel Plastics Research Laboratories, engineered for resin transfer molding, provides superior performance.

A new XTEND(TM) 19W advanced mold release from Axel Plastics, is specially engineered for resin transfer molding (RTM). This closed molding process produces composite auto and truck body and chassis parts. In customer evaluations, the XTEND 19W resulted in outstanding release performance in repeated testing.

Axel Plastics Research Laboratories, Inc., Woodside, NY, has been a leader in innovative mold release agents, processing aid additives, cleaners and sealants for the rubber and plastics industries. Mold release agents are used to prevent molded rubber and plastic parts from sticking in the mold cavities.

Mold release agents are classified as external and internal, depending on the method of application. Axel formulates, manufactures and supplies external and internal mold release agents, internal lubricants and process aids for all types of thermosets, thermoplastics, and natural and synthetic rubbers.

Manufacturers utilizing resin transfer molding (RTM) a closed molding process to produce composite body and chasis components are getting needed relief with a new XTEND 19W semi-permanent mold release that works well even with the toughest resins including the MODAR® product line.

According to Axel Plastics Research Laboratories representatives, in a series of tests with customers superior release performance was achieved and no sealer was required. In the tests, four applications of XTEND 19W were wiped on a clean mold at a molding temperature of (130 °F/55 °C approx.) allowing thirty minutes dry/cure time between coats.

"According to one of our customers", comments a Axel Technical Support Engineer, "all MODAR parts released cleanly and easily from the molds without leaving residue or scumming. And by applying a light coat of XTEND 19W between moldings exceptional release and reduced build-up was evident."

With XTEND 19W, the cost is reported to be 30-50% less than with competitive type products today. And, in a majority of applications XTEND 19W offered a proven release performance without any of the usual excessive build-up on the mold surface.

When cleaning of molds is required, Axel recommends the XTEND CW-90 (a companion cleaner to 19W) which is applied directly onto the hot mould. Unlike ordinary cleaners, CW-90 will remove molding residue without stripping the base coat of mold release.

The 64-year-old Axel Plastics , ISO 9001 registered company, also manufactures proprietary process aid additives for all types of plastic and rubber processing.

All of AXEL’s products are formulated from raw materials that comply with the chemical substance inventory lists of TSCA, DSL, MITI, EINECS, Australia and Korea.
