The Future of Intelligent Fastening Technology Press Release - Textron Fastening Systems introduced
its first commercial Intevia application at Aircraft Interiors Expo 2005
in Hamburg
Intevia intelligent fastening technology from Textron Fastening Systems, Inc. offers a wide array of potential design, assembly and service applications in aerospace, automotive, and electronics manufacturing. Textron, Troy, Mich, signed a technology and partnership agreement with Telezygology Inc. (TZ), a wholly owned subsidiary of TZ Limited (ASX: TZL) for exclusive global rights to develop, commercialize and manufacture products using proprietary intelligent fastening technology developed by TZ, in December 2004, marketing them under the Intevia brand name. TZ recently established its corporate headquarters in Chicago, Ill.
Its parent company, TZ Limited, is headquartered in Sydney, Australia.
A leader in development of intelligent fastening and assembly technology,
TZ’s core activity is licensing intellectual property and operating
software, along with application engineering and technology development
services to global manufacturers. The mutual goal is to establish Intevia
intelligent fastening as the standard worldwide operating system for
a new era of design and assembly technology.
These Intevia-enabled systems enhance aircraft cabin security and provide
an all new technology platform for cost-effective customization and
maintainability of entire fleets and individual aircraft. Intevia systems
comprise a network of mechanical fastening or locking devices driven
by smart materials actuation, embedded microprocessing and integrated
sensors for status reporting. Integrated intelligence enables applications
software to manage system operation.
Today, Textron Fastening Systems also introduced Intevia-enabled solutions
that allow quick reconfiguration of seat systems in commercial aircraft
and business jets. The solution enables installation and replacement
of an aircraft seat in less than five minutes versus 45 minutes for
manually unbolting seat mountings. The Intevia system verifies that
the correct installation and replacement process is followed, and ensures
that service is performed only by authorized technicians.
Example for automotive applications; Roof Racks: With the press
of a button car owners could attach or remove roof racks and other accessories
to reduce wind noise, drag, and vehicle height using Intevia intelligent
fasteners. The process could be integrated into the central locking
system, greatly increasing security and ease of use.
Example for electronics applicaitons; Computer Peripherals: Cables
connecting peripherals to computers are held in place by a screw-in
connector. By integrating Intevia fasteners into these connections,
mechanical and physical security can be controlled through computer
instructions. An authorized command sent to the connector would allow
removal of the peripheral, ensuring computer equipment security and
the integrity of networked devices.
