JVC joins the Blu-ray
Disc Association
and to introduce Everio Tapeless Camcorder
Manufacturing News Center - JVC joins an elite group
in the Blu-ray Disc Association
10/12/2004 -- Jobwerx News -- The consumer electronics
industry is firmly behind the Blu-ray Disc high-definition optical-disc
format and so is JVC.
JVC has joined the Blu-ray Disc Association because Blu-ray Disc is
the better technology for the consumer electronics industry.
HD DVD's and Blu-Ray, developed for high-definition video and high-capacity
software applications, have a greater data storage capacity and truer
high definition than today's DVDs. Blu-ray Disc is a true high-definition
optical-disc format.
These disc players employ a blue laser rather than a red one and can
pack more data onto a multi-layered optical disc. According to BDA,
a single-layer Blu-ray Disc will hold up to 25GBytes of data and a double-layer
Blu-ray Disc will hold up to 50GBytes of data. The new formats can hold
full-length feature films with a resolution six times as sharp as today's
DVDs.
BDA's founding members include Dell, Hewlett Packard, Hitachi, LG Electronics,
Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, Sharp and Sony. The BDA began accepting
applications for membership last month, and the organization was officially
launched in Tokyo on October 4. Toshiba and NEC are currently working
on the competing HD DVD, called Advanced Optical Disk (AOD).
Many more companies representing all segments of the consumer-electronics,
PC and optical media industries are expected to join and become members
of the BDA soon.
First models, due sometime in late '05 or early '06 and could cost as
much as $1,000 plus.
