Truck of the Year 2006 award
MAN TGL was voted Light Range truck of the year 2006 making MAN Nutzfahrzeuge
Commercial Vehicles Division the first ever to win the coveted trophy
for the sixth time.
At the European Road Transport Show 2005 in Amsterdam the new trucks
from MAN's TGL range have been voted "Truck of the Year 2006". This makes
MAN Nutzfahrzeuge the first truck manufacturer ever to win the international
jury's coveted trophy for the sixth time.
A jury of well-known trade journalists from 19 European countries selected
the Light Range from the Trucknology® Generation as "Truck of the Year
2006". The 94 points awarded made this a very clear result, the distance
to the next-placed competitor amounting to 55 points.
In the spring of this year the MAN TGL made its world premiere. Economy,
comfort and safety were the main concerns in the development of this truck
range in the 7.5 to 12 t weight category. With its clear vote in favour
of the TGL the jury confirmed that these goals have actually been achieved.
"The candidates for the 2006 award were very strong", said the jury chairman,
British trade journalist Andy Salter. "The fact the TGL has won by such
a wide margin indicates just how strong the product is."

TGL cab convinces the jury
By their own admission the jurors were particularly impressed by the care
taken by the MAN engineers in development of the TGL. Apart from the attractive
external appearance the truck experts liked the interior of the cab, which
gives the driver an "extremely good environment in which to work and rest".
Also commended was the outstanding visibility for the TGL driver thanks
to the deep-reaching windscreen and the innovative mirror concept - in
the jury's opinion this means considerable extra safety for a distribution
vehicle frequently underway in dense city traffic.

At the European Road Transport Show in Amsterdam (14 to 21 Oct. 2005)
MAN’s Commercial Vehicles Division presents its medium TGM range. Together
with the TGA and TGL models MAN's Trucknology® Generation is now complete
from 7.5 to 50 tonnes.
Anton Weinmann, Chairman of the Executive Board of the MAN Nutzfahrzeuge
Group, received the coveted trophy personally in Amsterdam on 13th October.
"The 'Truck of the Year 2006' award is a great reward for the entire MAN
team, which has done some outstanding work from development right up to
production of the new MAN TGL", he said, adding that in terms of economy,
comfort and safety the new TGL sets standards in its category. "This is
recognised by the jury in its vote - and by our customers with their orders",
he declared. He went on to say that the TGL had already notched up some
excellent sales figures. "After the TGA the second member of the Trucknology®
Generation has now been accorded this desired trophy. That very effectively
underlines the premium claim of the MAN brand."
MAN Nutzfahrzeuge wins trophy for sixth time
After winning in 1978, 1980, 1987, 1995 and 2001 MAN has now been awarded
the coveted "Truck of the Year" trophy for the sixth time. The prize has
been given annually since 1977. To date no other truck manufacturer has
managed to do this. The vote of the international jury of truck experts
confirms the high level of technical progress manifested by the MAN Trucknology®
Generation.
The MAN TGM - now celebrating its world premiere at the Amsterdam show
- marks MAN's successful completion of renewal of its entire truck range
from 7.5 to 50 t within the space of only five years.
