News Release -- Alcoa recently opened a second plastics closure production plant for the Beverage Industry in Hangzhou, China, south of Shanghai.

Alcoa Closure Systems International (CSI) also has a plant in Tianjin.

The new facility will produce plastic closures primarily for export to beverage producers in Japan and is 8,125 square meters. Two commercial lines are shipping AS-Lok (a linerless closure for aseptically filled bottles) and PS-Lok II (a linerless closure for hot filled bottles). Volume at the facility is estimated at 800 million closures a year and employs 110 people. The Hangzhou plant has the capability to expand to eight lines.

Alcoa CSI locations manufacture plastic closures utilizing the patented Alcoa (H-C) compression molding process in the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Colombia, UK, Germany, Spain, Hungary, Russia, Bahrain, Nepal, China, Korea, Japan and Philippines.

Alcoa CSI also has injection molding capacity serving the food and personal care industries. In addition, the business manufactures aluminum closures in Europe and Japan to complement its plastic product offerings to the local beverage industry. In its 27 locations and offices worldwide, Alcoa CSI employs nearly 3,000 persons. Alcoa Mill Products business recently opened an Aerospace Center located in the Wai Gao Qiao Free Trade Zone area near Shanghai, China. The Alcoa Aerospace Center (AAC), supplies aerospace materials to customers in China and the Asia Pacific region.
