Remarkable Resealable Closures for Glass Packaging

New packaging launch by a leading Italian wine maker selects Vino-Twist off metal closures from Amcor that hermetically seal bottles.

In the world of winemaking, the screw cap phenomenon for bottles is quickly gaining respect. Civ&Civ, a leading Italian wine producer, is making the bold move to produce screw capped wines. That's why they have selected Amcor White Cap's 48mm Vino-Twist™ metal Twist-Off lug closure for the packaging launch of the brand name "BELLA TAVOLA" glass carafe.

The sealing of wine bottles and wine production in general has been significantly altered by many technological advancements. In the past, wine bottles were sealed in the traditional way using corks. There has always been some degree of spoliage from an air-tight seal that has not been created.

Last year Jobwerx reported that Alcoa Closure Systems International (CSI) had introduced the Vino-Lok™ closure system, a decorative decanter stopper that is recyclable.

The Vino-Lok closure system looks like a decorative decanter stopper and is made with a rubberized O-ring, providing a sterile seal, preventing contamination or oxidation. An aluminum cap over the bottle enures a mechanical protection and tempering.

Vino-Lok was selected first from among 62 competitors, for the Packaging Design Award in the Glass and Metal Packaging Category at the 2004 FachPack exhibition in Nuremberg, Germany.

The Vino-Lok "Selection" with a glass stopper is the first product in a portfolio of wine closures that Alcoa CSI is currently developing as an alternative to traditional wine stoppers.

Lufthansa is currently featuring to its passengers a line of premium wines that use the glass stopper.

The new Vino-Twist from Amcor Packaging features a resealable wide mouth metal cap on the bottle. The closure is easy to open without a corkscrew. This resealable beverage packaging is ideal for on-the-go consumption. When reclosed tightly the wine cannot pick up any other flavors and can be stored both in an upright or horizontal position.

The bottle is cold filled and the Vino-Twist application seals the container without steam with an Amcor White Cap Sealing machine, after warming up to room temperature.

An advertising campaign for the The "BELLA TAVOLA" launch will take place at VINITALY 2006, and will be part of the Italian packaging contest "Oscar del Imballaggio".
