Applied NanoWorks, Inc. has begun their next stage of growth by announcing the addition of Tim Ullman to the management team as Operations Manager, with the responsibility of taking the lab scale processes for nano-scale materials and implementing the first production scale equipment and trials. The first product to be scaled up is the company’s Pinnacle Titanium Dioxide, which is sold as a dispersion of 5 nanometer particles in water. The company is also evaluating a number of sites for a material production and application development facility. Currently, the search is focused in the Albany, NY region. Interest in the material runs high among the coatings, integrated circuit and additives industries.

This growth comes on the heels of the company’s $2MM funding influx from High Peaks Ventures and FA Technology Ventures in February, 2006 to support commercialization efforts. A recent $700,000 grant by the New York State Office of Science, Technology and Academic Research to the University of Albany will fund research looking at using Applied NanoWorks materials as nano-scale abrasives for integrated circuit manufacture.

“I’m excited about this great opportunity for me use my expertise in chemical processes, safety and environmental to take their R&D processes to commercial production,” said Tim Ullman, operations manager for Applied NanoWorks. “In order to thrive in a new and growing operation, you need the agility to adapt to the next challenge and the depth to handle an entire spectrum of factors that influence success.”

“Tim’s broad experience base and successes with Cyclics Corporation convinced us that he is the person that can drive the programs we need as we grow into large scale commercial production of our products,” said Eric Burnett, CEO, Applied NanoWorks. “We’re on a growth plan to bring in the skills to scale up production capacity, build awareness in the market and expand our product offerings.”
