Manufacturing News Center - Avon Rubber announces the purchase of the remaining shareholding in Bell Avon, specializing in flexible fabrications, from Textron.

Picayune, Mississippi, U.S.A. -- September 20, 2004 -- Jobwerx News -- Avon Rubber p.l.c. (Avon) announces the purchase of the remaining shareholding in Bell Avon, Inc from Textron, Inc. (Textron) for a total cash consideration of US$1.4 million.

Bell Avon was formed in 1984 as a joint venture with Textron and is now a wholly owned subsidiary operating within Avon's Technical Products division. It is the only company in the Avon group to specialise in flexible fabrications.

Bell Avon is based in Picayune, Mississippi, USA and their principal products are hovercraft skirt systems and flexible tanks for the temporary storage of water and fuel for the US armed forces. For now, the company will continue to trade under the name Bell Avon, Inc., but a new name will be adopted in due course.

The parent company, Avon Rubber p.l.c., is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a manufacturer of a range of high technology rubber products for Automotive and Technical Products markets.

Bell Avon, Inc. Flexible Fabrications supplier of flexible storage tanks, bladders, flexitanks, flexi for storage of fuel, water and foodgrade and industrial products as well as hovercraft materials and skirting systems for high performance hovercraft. We offer many types of rubber as well as thermoplastic materials for use in storage sytems and skirting systems.

Defense related sales were strong during the year and we saw initial sales of our FM12 Respirator into the US homeland defense market as well as improved sales of skirt systems for the US Navy landing craft and flexible storage tanks for storing fuel and water on military deployments.
