REACH for manufacturers, users and importers of Chemicals

BASF Aktiengesellschaft is hosting a one day seminar on the new EU chemicals legislation entitled Together ready for REACH on November 26, 2007 in Ludwigshafen.

The new EU chemicals regulation for Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals (REACH) came into force on June 1, 2007.

The seminar, "Together ready for REACH", is aimed at manufacturers, users and importers of chemical substances from all industrial sectors. BASF’s experts will be providing information on all REACH-related issues ranging from stocktaking through analysis of incomplete data and pre-registration to chemical safety reports.

“Over the past few months, our business partners and customers have increasingly asked for our help in implementing REACH for their products. This is why we are offering the seminar as part of our Success sustainability service”, said Dr. Andreas Kicherer, head of BASF’s Success Team.

BASF – itself a manufacturer, importer and user of a large number of chemicals substances – is one of the companies most affected by REACH. The world’s leading chemical company has worked with REACH from the very beginning and has prepared intensively for its implementation over several years. “Many small and mid-sized businesses have been unable to develop the same level of REACH expertise. The seminar will give them the opportunity to profit directly from our knowledge”, said Kicherer.

REACH is designed to improve the protection of human health and the environment, and to maintain and enhance the competitiveness of the EU chemicals industry. The new regulation establishes European-wide uniform legal standards and replaces the former existing substances evaluation and notification of new chemicals substances.

REACH applies to all EU companies manufacturing, importing or using chemicals, who will have to assume even greater responsibility in future for the safe handling and use of these substances.
